In this thread, members could introduce themselves, and give a little info about their medium of choice, and source of inspiration. Only give your full name if you are comfortable with that.
I have been a WAAH member for about 2-3 years. I accidently stumbled on the group when I was asked to organize an Art in the Park at the Binbrook Conservation Area. I didn't know any artists in the Hamilton area - so I googled, and happily discovered the Women's Art Association of Hamilton.
I began with oils, then fell in love with watercolours but was discouraged by the expense of framing watercolours, when a friend introduced me to acrylic. I loved that I could use transparent glazes. For me, acrylic was a great middle ground between watercolour and oils. Recently though, I have felt the pull drawing me back to rediscovering watercolour - I have been thinking about incorporating some watercolour into my paintings - perhaps mixed media.
I love nature. I need my daily dose. It gives me goosebumps, like nothing else can. The smells, the wind, the sounds of leaves moving in the wind...the colours that change with the light, inspires me. It is what I want to paint.
I take my camera with me, whenever I go for nature walks/drives, and find it surprising that a place I have visited dozens of times, I still find something I want to photograph. I have started to analyse what drew me to want to photograph or paint a particular subject. The answers are sometimes surprising and it's interesting to look for a common thread.
