What is Art?
I ask this question, because this year, after attending an opening at a gallery, I found I asked the question myself. I won't go into details as, I don't want to offend the artist(s) or the gallery.
I appreciate modern art, and believe that the term art can be applied fairly loosely - however, I do believe that the "art" must involve some skill either in execution, design, or concept. I have seen many installations that I have been captivated by, and also enjoyed performance art.
However, when I see "art", that does not involve a degree of execution, design or concept, I do not classify it as art. I believe it completely alienates the public, and their appreciation of art. I don't think that art should do that. It should engage the viewer.
What do you think?
